Fishing Report - March 7, 2013

Published by Jason Bellows on 6th Mar 2013

Its Begun!

The weather is warming up and the fishing on the Shuswap is starting to reflect it. We have had several customers of the store hitting the lake and returning with fishing tails of large Rainbow taking subsurface Bucktails and giving the angler a worthy battle. There are several local tiers that we have convinced into tying their favourite Shuswap Lake patters for the store and our customers are reaping the benefits. The Grey Ghost, Wap Special, Creamsicle or other wise know as the *Tequila Sunrise*, the Mallard Back and Bunny Minnow to name a few of the dominant patterns out there right now. Sicamous has had the only launch open until yesterday when Harolds park finally open up. The ramp is closed off but shore launches are possible if you take care not to disturb the shore line and natural habitat too much. Success will be had by trolling a type IV wet line around 1 mile an hour past Margret Creek and down towards Sunnybrae. The Sicamous end of the lake is fishing well around Murdoch point and up towards the narrows. Use your fish finder to locate the schools of Salmon fry and then focus on making passes through them. Those large Rainbow make the fry a main part of their diet and are always lurking around the schools of bait fish. Another of our favourites out on the lake is a Nickel Red Head Dick Nite. This little lure doesn't look like much but trust us, every species out there will take this lure for a Salmon fry.

Please drop us an email, tell us your story and send in your photos so that we can post them and help you brag about your great out door adventures.
